Euphorbia platyclada

While cleaning the benches, I notice this Euphorbia platyclada has a flower.

Pretty tiny, but I'm really glad I got to see it.  A sign that the plant is happy and willing to divert energy to flowering.

The Difference is in the Flowers

Here are the flowers of a Euphorbia flanaganii and an Euphorbia esculenta - I can use these to positively identify the plants that I grew from seed (but didn't segregate).

And I recently repotted this Euphorbia gorgonis - it looks like it is doing better now!  Whew!

Cool Stapeliad Flowers

I'm not entirely sure about this plant's identification - some references point to a Huernia, but I'll keep looking.  For now, I'll enjoy the cool flowers it is pumping out - they totally look like road kill meat!!!

Unknown Asclepiad Flowering

This plant is spitting out flowers now.

With the flower, I can work on trying to identify it.

I'm hoping this plant starts to fatten up this year - but for now, it is pushing out wonderful flowers!

I got this plant from Perla last year.  It was in flower when I bought it and it is in flower again!

I'm hoping it starts getting fat this year!

Or at least one is flowering, with a single flower.  This plant and its contemporaries were seedlings last year.

New Year - Tavaresia barklyii Blooming

The big Tavaresia is starting the New Year off right!!!

A few new shoots emerging from the central section can be seen as well.  I'm looking forward to seeing this plant continue to grow and develop.

Another One Identified!!!

Duvalia sulcata

This one finally flowered two days ago - and checking on it this morning, the flower is still wide open.  I'll try and take another picture this evening.

These asclepiads are especially hard to identify - until they flower that is!!!

Seed Pods on the Ihi

Having seen a few of these now, I believe these are the seed pods that are actually holding seeds.

We'll find out in the next day or so (when I try to harvest them).

Mystery Stapeliad No More -

This one finally bloomed - the other previous flowers didn't make it this far for some reason.  Well - it isn't a rare/unique Stapeliad - in fact it is the same as it's planter mate, a Stapelia gigantea.

The one in the back does look bigger.... regardless the flower is a dead giveaway.

More Signs the Growing Season is Ending

Not that it isn't already obvious -

Here are the last couple of flowers on this Uncarina.  Since I got it established, it has not stopped blooming.  And visibly, you can see these are the last couple of flowers of this year.

Probably a good thing for this plant.  It has been investing most of it's energy to pushing out flowers - so much so that the stalk is pretty flimsy.  I'm hoping that over the winter, it turns some attention to strengthening the stalk.

Stinking The Place Up

The Stapelia grandiflora is still flowering.  This time is really smelled bad...

I'm not sure if the white things are small maggots or the pollen sacks busted open...

Sunday Portulaca molokiniensis Flowers

More flowers!

I exchanged pollen across these two flowers.  Hopefully I'll get seeds from these pods.  Seeds from these plants are hit and miss, and usually I only know they are there if the pod bursts open and seeds are just hanging around.  I'll figure out the signs sooner or later.

And since they were in the background - here are the young plants I'm growing out.

This one is popping!!!  I had started to think it might be time to give this plant a big trim to accentuate the caudex.  I guess I'll wait until this flowering is finished.

The first flower spike isn't even finished flowering and right behind it is not one but two new flower spikes!
