More Signs the Growing Season is Ending

Not that it isn't already obvious -

Here are the last couple of flowers on this Uncarina.  Since I got it established, it has not stopped blooming.  And visibly, you can see these are the last couple of flowers of this year.

Probably a good thing for this plant.  It has been investing most of it's energy to pushing out flowers - so much so that the stalk is pretty flimsy.  I'm hoping that over the winter, it turns some attention to strengthening the stalk.

From Around the Garden - April 17, 2017

I noticed a subtle difference in the new Jatropha podagrica leaves emerging from the two more mature plants. The lighter colored leaves are on the oldest plant, the really dark ones are on the younger plant. And here is another picture of the emerging leaves on the Pseudobombax ellipticum. Dual flowers on the Uncarina roeoesliana. The timing of all the previous flowers was one would fully bloom, and the next was getting ready to bloom - but two were never out at the same time. Until just recently. There looks to be no end to the flower production on this plant either - there are new buds still popping out.

The more I look at these flowers, the more intriguing they become! I really like the way the sunlight makes the entrance to the flower look - pretty much like a glowing party room!

Uncarina Bloom Number Two

This one is not a surprise as it has been developing just behind the first one. I'm doubtful the true pollinator lives in Hawaii, but what would be a nice surprise is if some other insect did manage to pollinate the one or both of these flowers - we'll see.

This plant is pretty young and it just put out it's first flower (not sure if it flowered before I took ownership, but I think this is the first season it would have been capable of blooming). Yeah - this is the plant I just transplanted and posted about a couple of days ago.

Uncarina Moving House

I repotted my Uncarina. I figured I would give it more room to encourage growth. It was the first occupant in the new square cedar plank box pot. And as young as this plant is, it is already pushing out flowers.

Another New Plant - Uncarina roeoesliana

This is another plant I got from the Tina's Nursery shipment (yes it was a while back - I've been busy with fixing things and the Holidays...). Since I potted it, the leaves that were on the plant have essentially been replaced. I was a bit worried as the plant looked like it had a rough shipping trip, but it looks a lot healthier now. It is a young plant, but I'm not going anywhere for a while.
