The pieces I turned in a couple of weeks ago for bisque firing were done. I used Red 25, Turquoise, and Majolica for these.
My daughter Noe got me interested in succulents in early 2016 and ever since we've been on a quest!!! Naturally with so many new plants around, we needed pots to put all of them into. The typical pots you can buy from the big box stores just don't have character that suits these incredibly interesting plants. So we've both been making our own pottery. And now we're branching out into other plants - Aeroids, Orchids and Citrus!!! Check out what our green thumbs have been doing!!!

Another Mystery - Euphorbia montrose or Euphorbia obesum x globosa
Yup - I'm not sure what this is exactly, but I'm leaning towards Euphorbia obesum x globosa. It has been a super slow grower, but it is really interesting regardless.
I think it is well complemented by this pot (I moved the Gasteria glomerata that was in this pot to another one, but that is another post).

Red 25 Glazed Pots
These are perhaps the most vibrant from this batch - this one is a Short Full Body pot - with lots of iron showing through the glaze. I like the character that the patchiness produces.
I'm happy!
This one is a U Body Pot - and of all the Red 25 glazed pieces I've made, this one is probably the nicest!
I'm happy!

Monadenium ritchiei
I had a Monadenium that I picked up at a nursery - but it just kept getting taller and taller. It never fattened up and there were no signs of it developing offshoots. I took it to the last CSSH meeting to get it to someone else who may have better luck growing it. So I thought I was done with Monadenium, but we stopped off at Koolau Farmers on Beretania and they had starters of the fat clustering kind. Here are some pictures of the plant for future reference and I went ahead and potted it in the big red bowl (future entry into the plant shows???).

Glazed Work 12/17/2016
I was able to pick up a batch fresh out of the kiln this past Saturday. I haven't had a chance to look over the pieces individually yet, but here is the group.

When I get a chance, I'll post individual pictures. The Red 25 glaze came out wonderful again. The Turq, not so much (but still nice). The Buttery Yellows also came out superb!!! It literally is like Christmas every time the kiln is emptied!!!

New Pots from the Last Kiln Run
And here are the pots I got from the last run - four of them (small batch - I've been busy with other things). Here is a rectangular pot made with Rod's Bod clay, slab built, dipped in Buttery Yellow glaze. I made it to hold a lateral growing plant.

This is a small round pot, again slab built Rod's Bod and this one dipped in Turq glaze. The turquoise aspect of the glaze didn't show up as much on this piece, but neither did the normal flat brown - this came out with a darker gray.

This medium-small sized hand formed pot was built from Rod's Bod and dipped in Turq. The turquoise totally came out on this!!!!

And the last pot in this run is a Rod's Bod, medium-small, pinched pot dipped in Buttery Yellow.

I'd say this was the best run yet!
Kiln Treasure! Red 25 on a Wheel Thrown Bowl
My Ceramics instructor called me a "Lucky Bastard"!!! The latest batch of pots came out of the glaze firing and they were fantastic!!! His comment alluded to the fact that my pieces got an awesome reduction treatment and they came out about as good as it gets. I'll start off with this bowl - Rod's Bod clay body, wheel thrown with no tools used (I accidentally left my bull's tongue at home), dipped in Red 25.

I've used this glaze multiple times before, but I've never seen it this solid, deep red before!!!!

I'm pretty sure this is one of my favorite pieces to date!

Newest Batch of Pots Back from the Kiln
I went to the ceramics studio yesterday after work to drop off some more pots. And what do you know - the latest glaze firing is all finished!!! I had several pieces in this firing and I have to say the reduction was fantastic!!! I am more than pleased with this latest batch. This pot is glazed in "Buttery Yellow" I love how the yellow ran into channels. The other pieces I've seen glazed with Buttery Yellow had a more even finish - I'm going to have to use this glaze more often.
This pot was glazed with "Red 25" - I tried to capture the very fine running that occurred - this red doesn't come out this vibrant unless the reduction process is well executed!
This pot was dipped "Cranberry"
This pot was first dipped in "Albany Black" to coat the bottom, and then the top was dipped in "Carbon Trap Shino".
Another dipped in "Cranberry" - this one did get more of the violet (red and blue) to show than the first one. This is perhaps one of the most variable glazes I have used so far.
Add just to show that I am making other things besides succulent pots, here is a tea cup I threw on the wheel. The glaze is a base dip of "Tenmoku" with a small dip of "Toshiko Orange" for the runny topping.
And the second to the last one (the last one I'm saving for another post) I got from this kiln run is another cup. This one was dipped in "Turq". The other pieces I've seen with this glaze came out brownish-green - not this one!!! Bright turquoise on a gray-green background!
